Putana

Volcano number: 355090
Region: South America
Country: Chile
Geodetic measurements? Yes
Deformation observation? Yes
Measurement method(s): InSAR
Duration of observation: 1992-2011
Inferred cause of deformation: Hydrothermal
Characteristics of deformation:

No deformation was detected at Volcán Putana between 1992 and 2009 during a regional InSAR survey of Central Andean Volcanoes (Henderson & Pritchard, 2013).
Between 13 September 2009 and 31 January 2010 there was a short lived uplift episode with a maximum uplift of 4 cm and a diameter of 5 km. The deformation was well fit by a shallow Mogi source at 1 km depth, and the deformation was attributed to activity in the hydrothermal system at Putana (Henderson & Pritchard, 2013).
